Ambev to close Minas brewery in Uruguay after 90 years
Ambev, through its Uruguayan operating company Fábricas Nacionales de Cerveza (FNC), has announced the closure of its brewery in Minas, located in the department of Lavalleja. The facility has been a part of the local economy since 1936.
The decision affects 59 workers, who have been placed on Uruguay’s state unemployment insurance scheme. Following the closure, production will be transferred to the company’s plant in Montevideo, where Ambev has stated it will invest US$14 million.
This announcement follows approximately two months of talks and was officially communicated to the union at the Ministry of Labour. While the plant has undergone a previous closure and reopening with a smaller staff, the company has indicated that production will now shift to the Montevideo site.
