Ambikapur Medical College hospital issues discharge message 42 days after constable's death
A controversy has emerged at Ambikapur Medical College Hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district regarding the management of Ayushman Bharat scheme records. Forty-two days after the death of a police constable, Devnarayan Ram, his wife, Seema Kujur, received a mobile message from the Ayushman Sarathi system stating that the patient was being discharged healthy and was returning home.
Seema Kujur, who works as a staff nurse at Jashpur District Hospital, has raised concerns regarding the transparency and monitoring of health schemes, questioning how a deceased individual could remain listed as undergoing active treatment for over a month. The family is demanding a formal investigation and strict action against those responsible for the discrepancy.
Dr. Shailendra Gupta from the Ambikapur Medical Hospital attributed the incident to a mistake by a data operator, stating that while the patient’s treatment was billed correctly for the duration he was actually admitted, the operator failed to close the card in the system. Local health officials have noted that responsibility for Ayushman scheme operations at the medical college lies with the Civil Surgeon.
