Ambra Angiolini to direct and perform Stefano Benni monologue in Bologna

Actress Ambra Angiolini is returning to the stage at the Teatro Duse in Bologna to perform Stefano Benni’s monologue, ‘La misteriosa scomparsa di W’. This production marks a significant milestone for Angiolini, as she takes on the role of director for the first time in addition to acting.

The production revisits a collaboration between Angiolini and Benni that began 15 years ago. Angiolini described their relationship as one built on mutual respect and support. Through this performance, she aims to honor Benni’s legacy, noting that the text allows her to speak through him as if he were still present.

The monologue explores themes such as war, immigration, and the loss of self. The staging will incorporate ‘Cracking Art’, a form of art that utilizes industrial plastic waste, to create a visual dialogue with the themes of ruins and reconstruction presented in the text.
