Ambrosia Energy breaks ground on Texas battery factory
Ambrosia Energy has commenced construction on a 10 GWh battery manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas. Announced by CEO Ben Longmier, the 150,000-square-foot plant is expected to reach full production capacity within two to three years.
The company aims to deploy solar and battery combinations to power data centers at a target cost of $100 per megawatt-hour. This model utilizes solar panels to charge accumulators during the day, which then release energy at night or during cloudy periods to ensure continuous operation. This approach is intended to compete with natural gas turbines currently used by hyperscalers.
Additionally, Ambrosia Energy plans to begin work on its first commercial pilot plant in West Texas by the end of the year. This facility will feature 300 megawatts of solar panels and 660 megawatt-hours of battery storage to provide 30 megawatts of continuous power.
