AMC begins production on NASCAR family drama ‘Thunder Road’

Production has officially commenced in Georgia for ‘Thunder Road’, an upcoming NASCAR-themed family drama produced by AMC. The series is scheduled to premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2027.

Created by John Fusco and led by showrunner Taylor Elmore, the fictional drama centers on the Whitlock family and their multigenerational ties to stock car racing. The narrative is expected to explore family rivalries, relationships, and the family’s roots in the Southern United States.

The ensemble cast is led by Dennis Quaid as Duane Whitlock, alongside Chase Stokes, Maggie Grace, Matt Barr, and West Duchovny. Other main cast members include Shane McRae and Jake Manley, with various recurring and guest stars such as Michael Rooker and James Wolk. NASCAR Studios is also involved in the production as an executive producer.
