AMC Entertainment receives Fitch Ratings upgrade amid box office recovery
AMC Entertainment Holdings has received a first-time Long-Term Issuer Default Rating of ‘B-‘ from Fitch Ratings, accompanied by a “Positive Outlook”. This follows a previous credit rating upgrade by S&P Global Ratings in July 2026. The upgrades reflect the company’s leading market position and its ability to capitalize on a recovering box office through premium formats and improved operating leverage.
Financial performance has shown signs of recovery, with revenue for the first half of 2026 rising 17% year-over-year to $2.64 billion. The company also reported a shift to positive free cash flow of $15 million during this period, compared to a negative $328 million in the first half of 2025. Despite these improvements, the company continues to manage significant corporate borrowings totaling $3.9 billion and a stockholders' deficit of $1.45 billion.
The recovery is supported by record-breaking North American summer box office revenues and high domestic grosses. Industry-wide domestic box office grosses for August 2026 were reported as the highest for any August in 50 years of record-keeping.
