AMD CEO Lisa Su visits South Korea to expand AI chip cooperation
AMD CEO Lisa Su has returned to South Korea to strengthen ties within the local AI semiconductor ecosystem. Her visit includes high-level discussions with Samsung Electronics regarding next-generation memory and foundry cooperation. A key focus is the supply of HBM4, the sixth generation of high-bandwidth memory, for AMD’s Instinct MI455X AI accelerators.
Su is also engaging with the South Korean government and a wide array of domestic AI startups. Beyond NPU (Neural Processing Unit) specialists like FuriosaAI and Rebellions, the meetings involve 13 companies spanning software, cloud, and AI models. This collaboration aims to develop heterogeneous AI computing architectures that combine AMD’s CPUs and GPUs with Korean NPUs to improve power and cost efficiency.
Simultaneously, the South Korean semiconductor sector is entering a critical earnings season. Major players including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are expected to report third-quarter results, which will serve as a litmus test for whether the global AI investment boom is translating into tangible corporate profits.
