AMD commits up to $5 billion to expand AI data‑center capacity

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced a multi‑billion‑dollar push into artificial‑intelligence infrastructure. The company will sign a deal worth up to $5 billion with AI start‑up Anthropic and secure long‑term compute through a 15‑year agreement with data‑center operator Core Scientific. The Core Scientific contract, valued at more than $14 billion in base revenue, provides AMD with 529 MW of AI‑ready capacity across five U.S. sites in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Georgia, with the first capacity expected online in the first half of 2027. AMD also receives options on up to 30 million Core Scientific shares and will supply credit support for the partnership.

In parallel, AMD is building the software stack for the Claude language model and preparing new EPYC server processors built on a 2‑nanometre process. Despite these operational moves, the company’s shares have been pressured by a broader sell‑off in the semiconductor sector, and investors are watching upcoming Q2 earnings for signs of debt and interest‑rate risk.
