AMD Confirms Next‑Gen Threadripper CPUs with Zen 6 Architecture and PCIe 6.0

AMD has officially confirmed its upcoming Ryzen Threadripper processor line, codenamed “Mustang Peak.” The new CPUs will use the company’s 2 nm Zen 6 core architecture and will be launched on a new TR6 platform that replaces the current TR5 socket. Key upgrades include support for PCIe Gen 6, continued DDR5 memory compatibility with additional channels and higher capacity, and a redesigned socket with expanded I/O capabilities.

The family follows the existing Threadripper 9000 series – “Shimada Peak” – built on 3 nm Zen 5 chips and limited to 96 cores/192 threads. While exact core counts for Mustang Peak have not been disclosed, AMD expects higher core density, larger caches and performance gains over the previous generation. The first Zen 6‑based processors are slated to appear in EPYC “Venice” server CPUs later this year, indicating that Threadripper models could arrive in the mid‑to‑late 2027 timeframe. AMD has not set a formal launch date yet.
