AMD launches Ryzen AI Halo mini‑PC for local AI computing

AMD introduced its own mini‑PC, the Ryzen AI Halo, built around the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU and equipped with 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory, 2 TB of PCIe Gen4 storage, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and a 10 Gbps Ethernet port. The system can run Windows 11 Pro or Linux and is marketed as a turn‑key platform for running large AI models locally, with AMD claiming it can handle models up to 200 billion parameters. Priced at $3,999 (about €4,200) the Halo will be sold exclusively through US retailer MicroCenter from 10 July. Compared with Nvidia’s DGX Spark, the Halo is slightly cheaper but its AI performance and software compatibility trail Nvidia’s GB10 boxes; AMD mitigates this by bundling the ROCm software stack and detailed playbooks to simplify setup for developers.

The launch marks AMD’s move from supplying chips to offering a complete local‑AI workstation, aiming to provide an x86 alternative that supports both Windows and Linux, while competing in the niche market of high‑performance mini‑PCs for AI research and development.
