AMD launches Versal Premium Gen 2 chips with integrated LPDDR5X memory

AMD announced the Versal Premium Gen 2 Memory‑on‑Package (MoP) adaptive SoC family, integrating up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory directly into the processor package. The on‑package memory delivers up to 288 GB/s bandwidth, reduces board area by as much as 60 % and eliminates high‑speed external routing, simplifying design for high‑performance embedded systems.

The new devices support PCIe 6.0 (64 GT/s), CXL 3.1, built‑in DDR memory encryption and 400 Gbit cryptographic engines, and operate over an industrial temperature range of –40 °C to 110 °C. AMD targets AI, networking infrastructure, aerospace, defense, professional video processing and test‑equipment markets, with engineering samples expected by the end of 2026 and volume production slated for the second half of 2027. The move marks a strategic shift from HBM to LPDDR5X amid broader memory‑capacity constraints.
