AMD releases Ryzen 7 5800X3D and shows Zen 6 outperforms Zen 5 by up to 29%

AMD announced the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a 10th‑anniversary edition of its popular 8‑core, 16‑thread processor. The chip runs on the AM4 platform, reaches up to 4.5 GHz, has a 105 W TDP and is priced around €360. It targets gamers seeking higher frame rates without upgrading to newer DDR5 platforms, and includes a Carbice Ice Pad thermal solution to improve cooling amid the ongoing hardware component shortage.

Leaked Geekbench data on AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 architecture – slated for future Ryzen, Threadripper, EPYC CPUs and Medusa Point APUs – indicate a 29 % single‑thread and 22 % multi‑thread performance increase over Zen 5. An APU test unit with 4 Zen 6 cores and 6 Zen 6c cores (10 cores, 20 threads) scored 3,174 in the single‑thread test and 15,092 in multi‑thread, surpassing comparable Zen 5‑based models. AMD plans to scale Zen 6 to up to 24 cores/48 threads with 48 MB of L3 cache, promising substantial gains for both consumer and server markets.
