AMD to expand FSR 4 upscaling to handhelds and laptops by 2026

AMD graphics chief Jack Huynh has announced that the company’s AI-powered upscaling technology, FSR 4, will be expanded to include APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld consoles by the end of 2026.

While FSR 4 was initially focused on desktop graphics cards such as the Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 series, the upcoming rollout aims to bring the technology to mobile hardware. To accommodate the lower power constraints of these devices, AMD plans to release a “lean” version of FSR 4 specifically optimized for mobile chips.

This move follows community pressure after previous indications suggested that mobile components, such as the Radeon 840M to 890M series, might be excluded from support. The technology uses machine learning to improve image quality from lower resolutions, enhancing gameplay fluidity.
