AMD unveils Ryzen Threadripper TR6 platform with Zen 6 and PCIe 6.0

AMD confirmed that its next‑generation workstation platform, internally named Mustang Peak, will use the Zen 6 microarchitecture and introduce a new TR6 socket. The platform will support PCI Express 6.0, DDR5 memory, and be manufactured on TSMC’s 2 nm process, offering substantially higher bandwidth and power efficiency.

The company’s documentation suggests the new chips could scale to as many as 12 CCDs, potentially reaching 144 cores and 288 threads, a significant jump from the current generation. While exact launch dates were not disclosed, leaked roadmaps and AMD’s typical product cadence indicate a market debut in the second half of 2027, after an initial rollout in EPYC server variants followed by consumer Ryzen models.

If realized, the TR6 platform will double PCIe bandwidth compared with PCIe 5.0 and target professional workloads that demand high‑performance storage, networking, and AI acceleration.
