AMD's Zen 6 CPUs target gaming stutter with new core‑level controls

AMD’s upcoming consumer‑grade Zen 6 processor family is reported to include a suite of per‑core performance management features aimed at reducing in‑game frame‑rate dips. Developer Yuri Bubliy (known as 1usmus) says the architecture will add Collaborative Processor Performance Control (CPPC) Performance Priority, allowing the OS and firmware to set minimum frequencies for cores running a game, while throttling idle cores. Additional mechanisms such as FloorPerf, per‑core EPP boost and dynamic frequency tuning are intended to keep critical cores at maximum speed during demanding scenes.

The design also introduces memory‑bandwidth enforcement tools, described as PQOS Global Bandwidth Enforcers, which limit background applications’ access to memory bandwidth, prioritising the game’s workload. These changes aim to improve 1 % low frame‑rate performance and curb stutter. AMD has not officially confirmed the features, and the company is already planning a later Zen 7 generation.
