AMEC unveils six new semiconductor manufacturing machines

Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment (AMEC) has unveiled six new chipmaking machines, marking a significant expansion of its product portfolio. The announcement was made at an industry conference in Wuxi, China.

The new equipment covers several critical stages of semiconductor production, including etching machines, deposition systems, and tools for silicon-carbide power chip manufacturing. Notably, four of the six new products are deposition tools. This represents a strategic shift for AMEC, which has traditionally focused on its core etching business. Deposition and etching are fundamental, repetitive processes in chip fabrication, where deposition adds thin material layers and etching removes material to create patterns.

Additionally, the company introduced equipment for silicon-carbide (SiC) semiconductor production. SiC is increasingly utilized in power electronics, such as electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, due to its ability to operate at higher voltages and temperatures with lower energy losses compared to conventional silicon. The new machines are at various stages of commercialization and will require further testing and customer qualification before widespread factory deployment.
