Ameca River rescue saves three elderly people

Three elderly residents from Santiago de Pinos, San Sebastián del Oeste, were successfully rescued after their vehicle was swept away by the strong currents of the Ameca River. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 22, near the La Gaviota dam (also referred to as El Colomo) while the group was attempting to cross the river.

The rescue operation, involving Civil Protection and Firefighters from Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta, lasted several hours due to the dangerous water levels and difficult terrain. Rescuers utilized specialized equipment, including heavy machinery, life ropes, and an agricultural drone, to locate and reach the vehicle.

The survivors, identified as two women aged 69 and 64 and a man aged 64, were extracted without serious injuries. They received medical evaluations following the ordeal and were later reunited with their families. Authorities have issued warnings to the public regarding the extreme dangers of attempting to cross rivers and fords during the rainy season.
