Amediastiftelsen acquires Aschehoug publishing house

Amediastiftelsen has confirmed the acquisition of Aschehoug, one of Norway’s largest publishing houses. The deal includes Aschehoug’s ownership stakes in Forlaget Oktober AS, Norli AS, Fabel Lyd AS, Allvit AS, and De norske Bokklubbene AS.

Aschehoug’s chairman, Thor Gjermund Eriksen, led the sale process. While the acquisition includes the prestigious villa at Drammensveien 99, it does not include the properties located at Sehesteds plass in Oslo.

The takeover represents a significant concentration of media power in Norway. Amedia, owned by Amediastiftelsen, is already the country’s largest newspaper publisher, controlling approximately 108 Norwegian newspapers and websites, as well as interests in Denmark and Sweden. The acquisition brings major news dissemination and literary publishing under the same ownership structure, alongside Amedia’s existing stake in the fact-checking service Faktisk.no.
