Amela Frankl opens multimedia exhibition in Dubrovnik

Multimedia artist Amela Frankl has opened a new exhibition titled “. . . upravo tako, unedogled!” at the Dubrovnik Art Gallery. The project draws inspiration from her time spent in Mauritania and the Sahara desert, exploring the intersection of her own cultural heritage with a vastly different environment.

The multidisciplinary exhibition features a mosaic of media, including texts, photographs, posters, spatial installations, and video recordings. Frankl blends documentary and staged photography with poetic text to capture specific geographical phenomena, such as the harmattan wind, alongside the socio-economic realities of Mauritanian daily life.

Described by the artist as a “desert self-portrait,” the work aims to evoke a range of emotions from melancholy and meditation to humor. The exhibition was opened by gallery director Tonko Smokvina, with Rozana Vojvoda serving as curator.
