Amelia Earhart disappearance mystery sees new evidence
New evidence from a remote island has reportedly shed light on the 1937 disappearance of legendary aviator Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan. Earhart, a pioneer who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, vanished while attempting an equatorial flight around the world in her Lockheed 10E Electra.
The final leg of the journey began on July 2, 1937, departing from Lae, New Guinea, heading toward the tiny Howland Island. During the 20-hour flight, the crew faced severe weather and thick cloud cover, which hindered navigation. Communication with the US Coast Guard cutter Itasca, stationed near Howland Island, became intermittent due to equipment malfunctions and visibility issues, leading to the historic aviation mystery.
