Amelie Schmidt receives science award for pediatric pain management research
Psychologist Amelie Schmidt has been awarded a science prize by the German Pain Society for her research on app-based pain therapy for children and adolescents. Schmidt, who works at the pediatric pain center of the Vestische Kinder- und Jugendklinik in Datteln, is investigating how digital tools can help young patients and their parents apply therapeutic techniques learned in clinical settings to their daily lives at home.
Her research emphasizes that active contact with therapists remains a crucial component for improvement through digital offerings. The award, which includes 7,000 euros, recognizes her work in helping children with severe chronic pain reintegrate into everyday activities, such as school and social life, following inpatient therapy.
