Amer Kapetanović emphasizes long-term peacebuilding in Istanbul

Amer Kapetanović, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), participated in the ninth Mediation Conference in Istanbul, organized by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the event, Kapetanović addressed the role of regional organizations in preventing conflict and fostering sustainable peace.

Speaking on a panel regarding the synchronization of regional actions, Kapetanović noted that while peace agreements can stop wars, true peace is built over years through continuous dialogue, practical cooperation, and institutional communication despite disagreements. He emphasized that regional cooperation in areas such as mobility, roaming agreements, and the recognition of qualifications helps build trust and shared interests across Southeast Europe.

Kapetanović also met with Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for European Affairs, Mehmed Kemal Bozay, to discuss strengthening regional connectivity and implementing joint priorities throughout Southeast Europe.
