America 2.0 Schooner Leads Historic 250th‑Anniversary Flotilla in New York Harbor

On July 4, New York Harbor hosted the United States’ 250th‑anniversary celebration, featuring the largest flotilla in history. The 105‑foot schooner America 2.0 escorted Sweden’s 129‑foot ship Gladan as they sailed past Brooklyn, Staten Island and Manhattan under the Verrazzano Bridge. The flotilla was accompanied by U.S. Navy warships, international vessels and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, while Vice President JD Vance departed from the USS Kearsarge and said, “Everything that we have done as a country, we have done together.” Swedish naval recruits climbed the Gladan’s mast as a symbol of peace, and dozens of foreign warships and aircraft joined the aerial review.

The event highlighted the historic significance of the Hudson River, recalling early colonial voyages and the Revolutionary‑War era, while participants reflected on personal family migrations to the United States. The celebration underscored the collective diplomatic and cultural ties among the United States and its international guests.
