America 250 Locomotive Celebration at North Carolina Transportation Museum, Aug 28-30

The America 250 Locomotive Celebration will bring specially‑painted locomotives from across the United States to the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina, from August 28 to 30. The three‑day event is organized by White River Productions, the museum and Trains Magazine and aims to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Organizers say the gathering will feature a wide mix of locomotive types, including Class I, short‑line and passenger engines. Museum Director Kelly Alexander highlighted the event as a continuation of past landmark gatherings at Spencer, such as the 2012 Norfolk Southern Heritage Portrait and the 2014 Streamliners show. White River Productions owner Kevin EuDaly called it “a rare opportunity to see a tremendous group of specially painted locomotives in one place,” while Trains editor Bill Stephens noted the public accessibility of the exhibition, contrasting it with the closed‑to‑the‑public 1975 Bicentennial photo session in Chicago.
