America 250 Locomotive Celebration to showcase 18 rail firms in North Carolina

The America 250 Locomotive Celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, will be held in Spencer, North Carolina from August 28 to 30, 2026. The three‑day event brings together 18 short‑line and regional railroads—such as Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway, Cincinnati Scenic Railway and Lake State Railway—alongside major freight carriers including BNSF Railway, Canadian National, CPKC, CSX, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific.

Custom‑painted locomotives from each participant will be displayed on a parade route and at the Bob Julian Yuvarlak Depot, with interactive exhibits, behind‑the‑scenes tours and photo opportunities. The North Carolina Transportation Museum will host visitors daily between 08:00 and 18:00, offering diesel‑train rides and rotating locomotive line‑ups throughout the weekend.
