America Football Club named Rio de Janeiro cultural heritage

The Rio de Janeiro state government has officially declared America Football Club a Historical, Cultural, and Immaterial Heritage of the state. The measure, sanctioned by the Executive Power and published in the Official Gazette under Law 11.333/26, follows approval by the State Legislative Assembly (Alerj).

Founded on September 18, 1904, in the Tijuca region, the club is recognized for its significant role in Brazilian football history. Notable achievements include seven Campeonato Carioca titles, the 1962 International Soccer League, the 1982 CBF Champions Tournament, and the inaugural Taça Rio in 1982. The club is also noted as the first Brazilian institution to adopt the name of the American continent.

The designation highlights the club's cultural and sporting importance but does not restrict or prevent future construction, renovations, or improvements to its facilities. The club is currently led by President Romário.
