American Airlines flight returns to Miami after passenger threatens crew
An American Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight bound for Georgetown, Guyana, was forced to return to Miami International Airport on Thursday following an in-flight disturbance. Shortly after takeoff, a passenger allegedly lunged toward flight attendants at the rear of the aircraft and issued verbal threats.
According to air traffic control communications, the passenger told a crew member, “I will take care of you when we land in Guyana.” The pilots executed a figure-eight maneuver before landing the aircraft safely in Miami.
Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to the gate to investigate reports of a potential assault. Following an investigation, authorities determined the incident was a verbal dispute rather than a physical assault. The passenger disembarked the aircraft, and the flight eventually departed for Guyana approximately five hours later with the remaining passengers.
