American Airlines unruly passenger emergency landing Baltimore flight disturbance

An American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Newark was forced to make an emergency landing in Baltimore after a 67-year-old passenger, identified as Arthur Lundeen, became physically aggressive and verbally abusive.

Witnesses reported that Lundeen, who appeared intoxicated, began shouting religious and discriminatory remarks, including racist and homophobic insults directed at crew members and fellow passengers. The situation escalated when Lundeen physically assaulted a passenger and damaged a laptop. In response to the violence, a retired law enforcement officer, Juan Mejia, and another passenger, Richard Olenick, intervened to help contain the man.

To prevent further escalation, crew members provided plastic zip ties and duct tape, which passengers used to secure Lundeen to his seat. Following the emergency landing at Baltimore/Washington International Airport, police took Lundeen into custody. He faces charges of second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the incident.
