American Airlines pilots warned against consuming alcohol-laced dessert
The Allied Pilots Association’s Aeromedical–HIMS Committee has issued a warning to American Airlines pilots based in or transiting through Phoenix regarding crew meal trays. The warning concerns tiramisu provided by a contracted catering provider, which contains alcohol.
Because the dessert is not cooked after the alcohol is added, the substance may remain in the finished product. The union stated it cannot determine the exact amount of alcohol in a serving or the potential impact on pilot alcohol testing.
The committee is working with the Phoenix Flight Office to have the item removed and replaced. In the interim, pilots are advised to accept incomplete meals rather than consuming the dessert. Pilots who have already consumed the item and are concerned about their fitness to fly have been instructed to contact union representatives.
