American Airlines Posts Record Q2 Revenue Amid Rising Trans‑Pacific Cargo Demand
American Airlines announced its highest quarterly revenue ever for the second quarter, driven by strong demand across premium and main‑cabin segments, robust corporate travel, and the addition of new premium seats on Boeing 787‑9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Fuel expenses rose sharply, but the airline offset about half of the increase with higher fares and reported a five‑point improvement in its Net Promoter Score. The carrier also plans to install Starlink high‑speed Wi‑Fi on its fleet starting in 2027.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that trans‑Pacific air cargo demand grew 8.5% in June, marking the third consecutive month of growth. Cargo tonne‑kilometers on the Asia‑North America lane rose 14.7% year‑over‑year, propelled by shipments of AI‑related equipment and semiconductors. North American carriers led the market with a 13.1% increase, while Asia‑Pacific carriers added 7.9%. IATA warned that risks remain, including Middle‑East security tensions and potential U.S. tariff actions.
