American Airlines resumes daily flights between Miami and Cap-Haïtien
American Airlines resumed daily nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien International Airport on November 1, 2026. The inaugural flight, AA2492, was operated by a Boeing 737-800 and featured an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking crew led by Captain Oliver Jean.
The airline had suspended its Haitian operations in November 2024 following security concerns, including an incident where an aircraft departing from Port-au-Prince was found to have bullet impacts. While this new route restores a vital connection to northern Haiti, American Airlines' flights to the capital, Port-au-Prince, remain suspended due to ongoing gang violence and federal restrictions.
This resumption marks Cap-Haïtien as American Airlines' 100th destination in its Caribbean and Latin American network. Haitian officials, including Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, have highlighted the importance of modernizing northern airport infrastructure to improve connectivity and support the regional economy and diaspora travel.
