American Airlines shifts to Instant Upgrade system
American Airlines has transitioned its paid upgrade process by retiring its old “Day of Departure Upgrade” product and moving operations to the “Instant Upgrade” system. While many upgrade offers are presented via the airline’s app or website, an internal memo reveals that reservations agents can still facilitate these purchases over the phone.
The memo instructs agents to assist customers who call regarding missing online offers. This is particularly relevant for certain international points of sale that may not yet be eligible for Instant Upgrade purchases through the website or at airport kiosks. Despite these digital limitations, reservation professionals can process upgrades in USD using the airline’s internal software, AACoRN, regardless of where the original ticket was purchased.
