American Airlines to discontinue five routes by 2027

American Airlines has announced plans to discontinue five routes as part of a strategic network evaluation. The changes, scheduled to take effect in 2027, include two international routes originating from Florida: Miami to Tulum, Mexico, and Miami to Montreal, Canada. Both routes are slated to end on January 5, 2027.

Additionally, the airline will terminate three domestic routes. The Phoenix to Provo, Utah, service will end on January 5, while the Chicago O'Hare to Lincoln, Nebraska, route will cease operations on April 5. A seasonal service from Dallas/Fort Worth to Albany, New York, concluded its final operations on September 7, 2026.

A company spokesperson stated that these adjustments follow a strategic assessment aimed at enhancing reliability and serving destinations most valued by customers. The discontinuation of the Miami to Tulum route follows a significant decline in passenger traffic at Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport, which saw a 33.2% decrease in the first half of 2026.
