American Airlines to resume daily Miami-Cap-Haïtien flights

American Airlines will resume daily service between Miami and Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, starting Sunday, November 1, 2026. This marks the return of a major U.S. carrier to the country after operations were suspended for nearly two years due to escalating gang violence and security concerns.

The airline will utilize Boeing 737 aircraft for the route, which connects Miami International Airport to Cap-Haïtien Hugo Chazez International Airport. Inaugural ceremonies are planned at both locations. The service is expected to provide much-needed competition and travel options for the Haitian diaspora and support local business and tourism.

While service is returning to Cap-Haïtien, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) maintains restrictions on flights to the capital, Port-au-Prince. The FAA ban on U.S. commercial carriers serving Port-au-Prince has been extended until at least March 2, 2027, following security incidents involving gunfire near the airport. The FAA currently prohibits U.S.-registered aircraft from flying below 10,000 feet over the capital and surrounding areas.
