American Black Film Festival and Nollywood's Black Market Set 2026 Premieres

The American Black Film Festival announced the first cohort of its ABFF 9:16 Microdrama Project Showcase, a digital‑first program that will premiere eight vertical micro‑drama series on the CODEBLACK app during the 2026 festival in Los Angeles. Festival co‑founder Jeff Friday said the initiative aims to elevate creators of color in the rapidly expanding mobile‑first storytelling format.

Nollywood’s new feature film Black Market, directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, is scheduled to debut on September 26, 2026. Organisers plan a Guinness World Record attempt by gathering 50,000 attendees at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, surpassing the current record of 40,000, to showcase the growing global influence of Nigerian cinema.
