American Cancer Society holds breast cancer awareness walks
The American Cancer Society held its annual ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ walks across several locations in the United States, drawing thousands of survivors, patients, and caregivers to raise funds for research and support services.
In Sunrise, Florida, the event at Amerant Bank Arena raised $360,000. Contributions included a $100,000 donation from AutoNation. These funds are designated for cancer research, patient advocacy, and support services such as lodging and transportation during treatment. The event comes as Florida expects approximately 24,700 new breast cancer diagnoses this year.
In the New York area, large-scale walks took place at Central Park and Jones Beach. Organizers anticipated approximately 50,000 participants at Central Park and 70,000 at Jones Beach. Participants emphasized the importance of early detection, mammograms, and genetic testing to combat the disease.
