Vicuña homicide: American teacher Anne Gray murdered in Chile

Anne Alexander Gray, a 47-year-old American teacher and apiculturist, was murdered in the Diaguitas sector of Vicuña, Coquimbo Region, on Monday, August 10. Gray, who had lived in the area for approximately one year, was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon after dropping her son off at school.

Authorities have detained César Rodríguez, a 27-year-old Venezuelan national in an irregular migratory situation, as the primary suspect. During his arrest, police reported he was in possession of a butcher knife, an air pistol, and various metal objects. The investigation has been transferred to the Homicide Brigade of the Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) of La Serena.

The crime has caused significant local shock. Neighbors described Gray as a community-oriented individual who had previously assisted residents during recent regional flooding. Following the incident, local residents held a peaceful demonstration to honor her memory and express concerns regarding community safety. Some reports indicate that the suspect's family has since left their residence due to fear of retaliation from the community.
