American Doctor documentary follows U.S. physicians in Gaza

The new documentary “American Doctor” follows three U.S. physicians who volunteered in besieged hospitals in Gaza. The film documents their experiences working alongside local medical staff to treat the wounded amidst ongoing conflict.

The featured doctors include orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Perlmutter, trauma surgeon Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, and Palestinian American emergency physician Dr. Thaer Ahmad. The film depicts the extreme conditions within overwhelmed medical facilities, including severe shortages of pain medication and the challenges of prioritizing patients during mass casualty events.

According to Palestinian officials, approximately 1,700 healthcare workers in Gaza have been killed since October 2023. The documentary highlights the impact of the conflict on medical professionals and the humanitarian crisis facing patients in the region.
