American expat sparks viral debate over Polish bakery culture

Annie Nguyen, an American living in Krakow, became the subject of a viral social media debate after posting a video of her grocery shopping at an Auchan supermarket in Poland. While the original intent of the video was to showcase the variety of dairy products available in Poland, viewers focused on her purchase of a low-cost baguette.

The video sparked significant backlash from Polish internet users, many of whom criticized the choice of supermarket bread over traditional bakery products. In response to the thousands of comments, Nguyen released a follow-up video in a humorous tone, jokingly apologizing for the “crime” of buying supermarket bread.

To address the criticism, Nguyen visited a local Polish bakery to demonstrate her appreciation for the country's traditional baking culture. She noted that while she understands the distinction between supermarket and bakery bread, she found the local bakery products to be impressive.
