American Express clarifies restaurant and hotel credit benefits for US cardholders
American Express Gold and Platinum cards provide a statement credit for purchases at Resy restaurants. Effective August 1 2026, the credit will apply only to venues flagged as eligible at the time of purchase. Amex says no venues are being removed and expects more eligible locations later, especially as Tock restaurants become bookable on Resy. A third‑party tool from NextCard maps eligible and ineligible Resy venues, showing about 200 ineligible locations nationwide, with the vast majority still eligible.
The Amex Platinum card also offers up to $600 in annual hotel statement credits, split into two $300 semi‑annual allocations, for prepaid bookings made through American Express Travel on Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection. The Hotel Collection requires a two‑night minimum and includes a $100 on‑property credit, while Fine Hotels + Resorts provides perks such as late checkout and breakfast. Cardholders can maximize value by comparing Amex Travel rates with direct hotel prices and targeting stays in the $350‑$550 range.
