American Hostage series premieres on HBO Max

The psychological thriller series ‘American Hostage’ has premiered on HBO Max. Starring Emmy winner Jon Hamm, the eight-episode anthology series is based on a true story from 1977 involving Indianapolis radio reporter Fred Heckman.

In the series, Heckman finds himself at the center of a high-stakes hostage crisis when kidnapper Tony Kiritsis, played by Giovanni Ribisi, demands to be interviewed on Heckman’s popular news program. The narrative explores the intense 63-hour standoff and the complex role of the media during such crises.

The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and created by Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, follows a weekly release schedule. Following the initial two-episode launch on September 21, 2026, new episodes are scheduled to air every Monday, with the season finale expected on November 2, 2026.
