American nutria captured on private property in Bieszczady

An American nutria, an invasive species from South America, was discovered on a private property in Olszanica, located in the Bieszczady region. The presence of this rodent poses a threat to local biodiversity.

Upon spotting the animal, the property owners contacted the local municipal office rather than attempting to capture it themselves. The local government provided a specialized trap, which successfully captured the nutria. Because it is classified as an invasive alien species in Europe, the animal cannot be released back into the wild.
