American Red Cross employee receives life-saving transfusion

Alexis González, a regional communications manager for the American Red Cross, recently experienced a medical emergency that required an emergency blood transfusion. After suffering from severe anemia and blood clots connected to her liver, González received two units of blood supplied by the American Red Cross.

González, who is a regular blood donor and advocate for the Latino community, noted the personal impact of the service she promotes. During her recovery, she discovered a connection between her care and her work: the nurse’s son was a Red Cross volunteer she had met during a training session just two weeks prior.
