American tourist's wallet stolen in Naples, Moroccan thieves arrested and sentenced

On a beach along Via Caracciolo in Naples, a U.S. tourist had his wallet taken.

The wallet contained a hidden geolocation device and a credit‑card. Alerts from the card and the tracker allowed police to follow the suspects as they made purchases worth about $1,500 in the city centre.

Police located the two men, both Moroccan nationals without documents, in Via Oberdan, recovered the purchased items – high‑end smartphones, designer shoes, alcohol and tobacco – and arrested them.

The suspects were tried in a direct‑order proceeding and each received a sentence of one year and eight months’ imprisonment; one was already subject to an expulsion order and is under investigation for another theft.
