American Transportation Research Institute launches driver health study
The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has launched two new surveys aimed at investigating how truck driver health affects trucking operations and costs. The research initiative targets both motor carriers and truck drivers to understand the link between wellness and industry metrics.
Drivers will be asked to provide anonymous information regarding their health experiences and the duration of their medical cards while on the road. Motor carriers will be surveyed on fleetwide averages for insurance costs, medical card durations, and key performance indicators. The goal is to determine how driver health influences operational risks, including healthcare costs, workers’ compensation, productivity, turnover, and medical qualification.
Industry stakeholders have until Friday, November 13, 2026, to participate in the confidential data collection process.
