American woman faces jail for fraudulent Marriott discount in Singapore

A 41-year-old American woman is facing up to three years in prison after using a fraudulent Marriott employee discount at a hotel in Singapore. The incident involved the unauthorized purchase of an ‘Explore by Marriott Bonvoy’ membership via Craigslist for approximately $300.

To utilize the discount, the woman allegedly posed as the sister of a Marriott employee, who falsely claimed a familial relationship to facilitate the perk. The woman used the membership at the Sheraton Towers Singapore for multiple stays, totaling nearly $1,200 in unauthorized discounts. The fraud was discovered by hotel management during one of her final stays.
