Americanas executives indicted in R$ 22.8 billion fraud case
The Brazilian retailer Americanas, currently undergoing judicial recovery, is facing significant legal and financial developments. The Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro has officially named 12 former executives as defendants following an indictment by the Ministério Público Federal (MPF). The executives, including former CEO Miguel Gutierrez, are accused of participating in an accounting fraud scheme estimated to be worth at least R$ 22.8 billion. The charges include criminal association, ideological falsehood, market manipulation, and suspected insider trading.
In a separate move to manage its restructuring, the court has approved the sale of three company properties for approximately R$ 130 million. This follows a lack of competing bidders in the competitive sale processes. Supermundi Empreendimentos e Participações Ltda. will acquire a property in Laranjeiras for R$ 95 million, while the Fundo de Investimento Imobiliário Antilhas (FII Antilhas) will purchase two properties in Tijuca and Freguesia do Engenho Velho for R$ 34.92 million. The company stated that these asset sales represent a relevant step in its transformation plan.
