Americas emerge as global leader in oil production

The Americas have emerged as a dominant force in the global energy market, with production levels shifting the industry's center of gravity away from the Middle East. According to data from Bloomberg, the region currently produces approximately 39.5 million barrels of crude oil and petroleum derivatives per day. When including ethanol and biodiesel, the total volume reaches roughly 42 million barrels per day, surpassing all other global regions.

The Americas now account for nearly 40% of the world's crude oil production. This shift is driven by significant growth in several key nations. The United States has seen its production rise from 5 million barrels per day in 2008 to nearly 13 million barrels per day, fueled by the shale oil revolution. Brazil also reported record production in June, reaching 4.5 million barrels per day, a 19% increase from the previous year. Additionally, Canada reached a production record of 5.64 million barrels per day in December 2025.

This regional surge occurs amidst global supply instability caused by conflicts in the Middle East and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which have led to reduced oil availability and increased prices.
