America’s Got Talent considers moving production out of California
America’s Got Talent is reportedly considering moving its production out of California for its 22nd season. Producers from Fremantle and Simon Cowell’s Syco are evaluating Georgia or Tennessee as potential new locations to reduce production costs.
This potential relocation follows a trend of major reality competition series leaving Los Angeles. American Idol is moving to Georgia, and The Masked Singer has announced plans to relocate to New Jersey. The shift comes amid a decline in local television production; FilmLA reported that television production in the Los Angeles area fell 27.7% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the previous year, with reality TV shoot days dropping nearly 40%.
To remain competitive, California has expanded its film and television tax credits, including new incentives for unscripted productions. However, other states continue to offer significant financial incentives to attract major television series, putting pressure on the California entertainment industry and its network of workers, vendors, and crew members.
