Americas Working Group on Cybercrime meets to address regional security
The 11th meeting of the Americas Working Group on Cybercrime recently convened in Paraguay, bringing together INTERPOL, the World Economic Forum, the National Police, and the Ministry of the Interior of Paraguay. The gathering focused on the need to transform raw data into actionable intelligence to combat transnational cyber threats.
Participants identified several critical threats facing the region, including ransomware, phishing, digital financial fraud, the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI), and Cybercrime as a Service (CaaS). Experts emphasized that these activities are not merely technical issues but represent significant challenges to national and regional security that can disrupt public institutions and damage entire economies.
To counter criminals who exploit jurisdictional differences and move infrastructure faster than organizations can respond, the group reached a consensus on the necessity of structured public-private cooperation, joint operations, real-time intelligence sharing, and sustained investment in technical capabilities.
